Best time to plant Zephyranthes

Spring and summer are the best growing seasons for Zephyranthes, because it likes a warm environment. When the temperature is between 20 and 25 degrees, Zephyranthes can take root and grow better. So don't plant it too early in spring. You should wait until after April when the temperature is more stable. Planting in summer should not be too late. It should be in early summer, otherwise the temperature is too high and it is not conducive to rooting. In addition, you should also pay attention to the method when planting and try to provide a suitable growth environment.

After planting Zephyranthes, it will bloom in May, bloom after the rain during the day, close at night, and remain open until the end of October.

How to plant Zephyranthes

To plant Zephyranthes, choose loose, fertile soil and plant them at a certain distance. Expose the tip of the bulb a little, cover it with a thin layer of soil, water it, and place it in a sunny and ventilated place for maintenance.

1. Choose a pot

The size of the pot is generally between 20 cm and 30 cm. The larger the capacity of the pot, the more you can plant. Zephyranthes likes loose, breathable, well-drained, fertile soil, so we can use some leaf mold, farmland soil, and river sand to grow it.

You can get leaf mold from under the trees. The yellow leaves that float for a long time will rot in the soil. Such soil is relatively fertile. You can also get some soil from the small vegetable garden. Because you often grow vegetables and plow and fertilize there, the soil is loose and soft.

2. Seedlings

When planting, we can use seeds and divisions. Sowing is relatively simple. After flowering in its growing season, when the seeds grow and mature, they can be picked and planted for seedlings to emerge.

The specific method is to plant evenly in a seedling box with peat soil or sandy soil substrate, and then cover it with half a centimeter of soil during the planting process to keep the soil moist. Generally, seedlings can grow within half a month. When the seedlings grow 5-6 leaves, the bulbs can also be planted in pots after germination to a certain extent.

Things to note when planting and managing Zephyranthes

1. Temperature: Zephyranthes is best grown in a warm environment, with the temperature controlled at 18-30℃. In the hot summer, it can be placed in a cool place indoors for maintenance. Pay attention to more ventilation, and the plant will grow more vigorously.

2. Soil: Zephyranthes can be grown in ordinary garden soil, or large particles of river sand or coal slag can be added to the garden soil to ensure good drainage and air permeability of the soil and promote the growth of Zephyranthes plants.

3. Watering: Zephyranthes does not require much water. You can water it according to the dry-wet principle. Don't water it too much at a time. Waterlogging can easily cause Zephyranthes to rot its roots and turn its leaves yellow, which is not conducive to its growth. In the hot summer, you can increase the amount of watering appropriately, and reduce the amount of watering in winter to keep the soil moist.

4. Fertilization: During the Zephyranthes seedling stage, fertilizer can be applied once every 15 days, mainly with light fertilizer and water. Fertilizer can be applied once every 30 days during the growing period, and fertilization should be stopped during the winter dormancy period.
