1. Leaf Difference

The leaves of osmanthus are leathery, oval, elliptical-lanceolate or oblong in shape, about 7 to 14.5 cm long and 2.6 to 4.5 cm wide. The tip of the leaves gradually becomes pointed, and the base gradually narrows to a cuneate or broad cuneate shape. The leaves are entire or have fine serrations in the upper half, and are glabrous on both sides.

Murraya paniculata has 3 to 7 leaflets, which are obovate or obovate-elliptical in shape, asymmetrical on both sides, 1 to 6 cm long, 0.5 to 3 cm wide, and rounded or blunt at the tip.

2. Flower Differences

Osmanthus is a cyme inflorescence, usually clustered in the leaf axils, with several flowers. The corolla is yellow-white, yellow or orange-red, and is about 3 to 4 mm long.

The inflorescence of Osmanthus fragrans is usually terminal, but sometimes axillary. The flowers are mostly gathered in an umbrella shape. The flowers are white in color, with 5 petals that are oblong.
