Where is it suitable to grow apricots?

Apricot Growing Area

Apricot trees do not have high requirements for the environment and are relatively cold-resistant. They are mostly planted in North China, Northwest China and East China, but grow wild in a few areas.

At present, apricots are grown in most parts of my country, and the apricots in many areas are of extremely high quality. Except for the southern coastal provinces and Taiwan, which are rarely distributed, apricots are grown in other provinces and regions. Therefore, it is impossible to say that apricots are a specialty of any place, but there are many well-known production areas in my country, such as Beijing, Hebei, Shandong and other places.

Apricot Growing Conditions

Apricot trees can grow normally in areas with an average annual temperature of about 6 degrees. During the entire annual growth cycle, the plants need an effective accumulated temperature of 2000-2500 degrees. Flowering, fertilization, and fruiting can be completed when the temperature is above 10 degrees.

Apricots have high requirements for light, requiring more than 2500-3000 hours of sunshine per year. The ideal planting soil is a sunny or semi-sunny slope with deep soil, fertile soil and good drainage.

Key points of apricot planting and management

1. Soil management:

For planted apricot trees, soil management is very important. In autumn, the soil should be turned about 20 centimeters deep to keep the soil sufficiently aerated and increase the soil's fertilizer retention capacity, which is conducive to better root growth.

2. Fertilization:

Reasonable fertilization can increase the fruit setting rate of apricot trees. It should be mainly organic fertilizer, combined with some diammonium phosphate. The basic base fertilizer can be applied by digging trenches in autumn.

3. Irrigation and shaping:

Water thoroughly before budding to meet the needs of flowering and growth of apricot trees. After flowering and during the fruit expansion period, water thoroughly again to improve the fruit setting rate and fruit quality.
