Loquat Tree Planting Conditions

The flowering period of loquat is in late winter and early spring. Low temperatures in winter and spring will affect its flowering and fruiting. When the temperature is -6℃, it will cause frost damage to flowers, and when the temperature is -3℃, it will cause frost damage to young fruits. Pollen begins to germinate above 10℃, and pollen germination is most suitable at around 20℃. When flowering, as long as the temperature required for pollen germination is reached for a short period of time at noon, the pollen tube can elongate and fertilize.

Key points for loquat tree planting and management

1. Fertilizer and water management

The first thing to note is that a lot of fertilizer is needed during the loquat planting process, especially fertilizer containing potassium, which has the highest demand. As for the loquat garden, if you apply fertilizer in mid-February, try to use quick-acting fertilizer as the main fertilizer, and you can appropriately increase the proportion of potassium fertilizer and nitrogen fertilizer.

2. Pruning method

Usually, you can prune the fruit trees from late October to November while thinning the flowers and controlling the crown height. The pruning of loquat trees is mainly based on thinning branches. In addition to removing those densely growing branches, you should also shorten some fruiting branches with too many flower spikes.

3. Thinning flowers and fruits

The flower thinning period of loquat trees is generally carried out in early November. We leave one or two flowers on a branch and remove all the other flowers. This way, the ratio of flowers left on fruiting branches and nutrient branches can be more balanced.
