How to plant dahlias? Planting time and method

Dahlia Planting Time

It is best to plant dahlias in spring from March to April. The temperature should be controlled at around 10-25℃. The seeds should be germinated before planting, the soil should be thoroughly disinfected, and the soil should be loosened in combination with fertilization. After planting, water should be added and moisturized frequently.

How to grow dahlias

1. Seed treatment: Before planting dahlias, the sterilized seeds should be washed with water and then treated in a dilute chlorine-free nitrobenzene solution.

2. Substrate requirements: The soil for planting dahlias should be nutrient-rich sandy soil. The soil should be deeply plowed before planting, using a mixture of garden soil, humus soil and river sand.

3. Planting: The time for planting dahlias is generally between March and April in spring. Place the seeds evenly in the soil and then cover the seeds with soil.

4. Management after planting: Dahlia seeds should be given appropriate shade during the germination period. When the seedlings emerge neatly, the ground film can be removed, the seedlings can be transplanted and managed in a sunny place.

5. Cultivation and management: Dahlia is a fertilizer-loving plant. Sufficient nutrients must be provided to the plant in the early stage of its growth. Cake fertilizer can be added according to the growth of the plant.

How to plant the dahlias you just bought

1. Check the condition of the plant: In order for the dahlia to grow normally in the future, you need to check the growth of the plant after you buy it, and observe whether the roots and leaves are diseased.

2. Seedling hardening treatment: The newly bought dahlias need to be placed in a cool place first, and ventilation should be strengthened for the plants. Open windows more often for ventilation to promote air circulation. After a period of time, the branches and leaves of the dahlias will stretch out, and after new leaves have grown, the seedling hardening is basically successful.

3. Timely pruning: Because dahlias are not adapted to the surrounding environment, they may have yellow leaves, which need to be pruned off in time. They cannot be left on the ground, which can also reduce nutrient consumption.

How to grow dahlias fast

1. Light requirements: Dahlias have high requirements for sunlight and need to grow in a sunny place. They need to receive more than 6 hours of sunlight every day. Only in this way can their growth be guaranteed.

2. Soil requirements: Dahlias have certain requirements for the soil during their growth. They need to ensure good drainage and loose soil.

3. Suitable temperature: Dahlias prefer cool weather and are afraid of hot climates. They grow best in an environment of 20°C. In North China, the most suitable temperature for their growth is from late spring to late autumn.

4. Apply water: It is not allowed to apply too much or too little water. During the growing period, water is needed 2-3 times a day. Before flowering, water should be properly controlled to protect the flowers.

5. Apply fertilizer: In addition to maintaining sufficient base fertilizer, it is also necessary to apply topdressing in time. Starting from mid-to-late July until before flowering, a thin layer of liquid fertilizer needs to be applied every 7-10 days during this period.

Precautions for potted cultivation of dahlias

1. Insert bamboo poles to support the plant: The stems of dahlias are relatively fragile and can be easily blown down and broken by the wind, so when the plant grows to more than 30 cm in height, it should be promptly supported by bamboo poles to increase the ornamental value of the potted plant.

2. Protect the plant safely over the winter: Dahlia is not a cold-resistant plant, so when the branches and leaves wither in winter, trim the above-ground parts and move them indoors for maintenance.
