How to change the soil of iron tree

When should I change the soil for my iron tree?

It is best to repot and change the soil for the iron tree around early May. This is when the plant is in its budding period and the temperature is warm, which will help the plant adapt to the pot after changing the soil.

Normally, the soil of the iron tree should be changed in spring. If it is necessary to change the soil now in summer, it is also possible. Try to avoid damaging the roots when changing the soil. It is better to cut off a few old leaves after changing the soil, but it is also okay not to cut the old leaves. After changing the soil, water it sufficiently once and place it in a ventilated and cool place for about 10 days before placing it in a normal environment for maintenance.

When should the iron tree be transplanted?

The best time to transplant the iron tree is in March each year when the tree is still in a dormant state. It is the best time for transplanting. When cultivating iron tree seedlings at home, it is generally not advisable to buy plants that are too large.

How to change soil and pot for iron tree

1. Remove the pot and prune the roots : Repotting the iron tree should be done when the weather is clear. Remove the plant from the pot under the sun and take it out. After removing the pot, the roots should be trimmed, and the excess roots, rotten roots, and old roots should be cut off. Then, spray carbendazim on the wound to disinfect it and prevent the wound from rotting.

2. Prepare the potting soil : The replacement pot must be larger than the original one to ensure sufficient growth space. The soil inside should be new, which can be mixed with leaf mold, garden soil and sand, and watered with an appropriate amount of ferrous sulfate to keep it acidic. Such potting soil can meet the growth needs.

3. Planting in pots : After the potting soil is prepared, you can plant in pots. Just put the treated plants into the soil. After planting, water them thoroughly once in time, and then place them in a semi-shaded, ventilated place. They will recover soon. Note that you should not rush to fertilize before they have adapted to avoid fertilizer damage.

Precautions for changing soil for iron tree

1. If you are changing the soil for a normally growing iron tree and the plant is not long old, you can directly take it out of the pot, put it in a larger pot, fill the gaps with new potting soil and water it thoroughly.

2. The iron tree should be planted in loose, fertile, acidic sandy loam. If you want to prepare potting soil, usually garden soil is mixed with coarse sand. In addition, leaf mold can also be mixed with sandy soil in equal proportions, which is also a good soil.

3. For iron trees that have been growing for a long time, changing the soil should be combined with root pruning and leaf cutting. Root pruning mainly involves cutting off old, weak, sick and damaged roots, and then smearing wood ash on the wounds left to prevent bacterial infection. Wait until the wounds are dry before repotting and watering them to establish the roots.
