The growth cycle of Cistanche deserticola is generally about three years. It likes to grow on slightly salinized sandy land, generally growing on sandy land or semi-fixed sand dunes, dry old riverbeds, lake basin lowlands, etc. Its host Haloxylon ammodendron is a strong xerophyte.

Growth rate of Cistanche deserticola

Cistanche grows in the desert at an altitude of 225-1150 meters, parasitizing on the roots of plants such as Haloxylon ammodendron and Haloxylon persicum. It is generally believed that Cistanche plants grow underground in the first and second years, and if they are buried shallowly in the spring of the third year, they will be able to grow out of the ground.

Cistanche deserticola grows slowly, and its growth process is divided into five stages: parasitism, growth, flowering, fruiting, and regeneration. Its flowering period is from May to June. After flowering, the shorter plants are about 30-40 cm long, and the longest can reach 2 meters or more. Its fruits mature in June and July.
