How to sow iris seeds

Iris seed sowing time

Irises prefer an environment with plenty of sunshine and a cool climate, so spring and autumn are the best seasons for sowing, when all conditions are conducive to seed germination.

Iris seeds usually germinate three days to a week after planting, and it takes about fifteen days to a month from sowing to flowering.

Iris seeds sow in summer

This variety of iris is easy to survive when planted. It has relatively low requirements for the planting environment. It is vigorous in nature and has high cold and drought resistance during planting. It can survive even if planted in winter or summer.

How to sow iris seeds

Choose plump, mature iris seeds and sow them in loose soil at intervals of one or two centimeters. Cover them with a 3-5 cm layer of fine sand. Slowly place the flowerpot in clean water without submerging the mouth of the pot. After the surface of the soil is moist, slowly take it out and place it in a place with suitable light.

Seed treatment

When planting irises, you need to soak the seeds in water for a day before sowing, and then plant the seeds in suitable soil. Iris grows very fast, and if properly cared for, the seeds will germinate in about ten days, and then true leaves will grow.

Seed germination

It takes 7-10 days from iris sowing to germination. Iris seeds germinate relatively quickly, and the germination effect can also be achieved by soaking in water. It should be noted that the soaking time does not need to be too long and the water temperature cannot be too high.

Seed germination

After planting irises, you can water them thoroughly once, but do not water them too much to avoid them being in a wet state for a long time. Then wait until the soil is dry before watering again. Control the temperature of the soil. The most suitable temperature should be between 16-18℃. Avoid strong light at the beginning, and provide sufficient diffuse light for maintenance in the later stage.
