How long is the growing cycle of cowpea?

Introduction to Cowpea Growth

Cowpea likes sunlight and is also relatively shade-tolerant. The soil should not be too wet to avoid seed rot. It requires appropriate air and soil humidity. It is mostly distributed in temperate, tropical and subtropical zones. The main production areas are Liaoning, Henan, Hunan, Guangxi, Sichuan, Taiwan and other provinces.

Cowpea growth cycle

When the cowpea seedlings grow to 30 cm, a rack should be built because the top branches have the habit of winding and climbing and will climb up by themselves. The growth period of cowpea is usually divided into two types. Its growth cycle takes about 120 days in spring and about 100 days in autumn.

Cowpea growth rate

The seedling stage of cowpea takes 15 to 20 days, and the vine stage is generally about 10 to 15 days. During this period, the main vine rapidly elongates and nodules begin to form. The flowering and pod-setting period is from the budding of the plant to the end of pod harvesting, which is generally 50 to 60 days.

Cowpea Growth Cycle Management

The yield of cowpea is about 3,000 kilograms per mu. There are many varieties and the yields vary. For example, the yield of E cowpea 12 mu is about 1,700 kilograms, the yield of Guijiang No. 1 and Chengjiang No. 10 is about 2,000 kilograms per mu, and the yield of Zaojiang No. 4 is about 3,000 kilograms per mu.

Temperature management: Cowpea grows best in an environment of 20-25 degrees, and can withstand temperatures above 35 degrees in summer. However, it is not frost-resistant, and its growth will be inhibited if it is kept below 10 degrees for a long time.

Fertilization management : To ensure the supply of fertilizer elements for cowpea, it should be applied in combination with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, and supplemented with boron fertilizer and molybdenum fertilizer to promote pod setting and increase yield.
