How to grow azalea

How to grow azalea

1. Lighting

It needs to be placed in an environment that is both ventilated and shaded, and in the summer when the temperature is high and the sun is bright, it needs to be placed in a place with 70% shading or under the shade of a tree.

2. Water

When watering azaleas, the soil in the pot needs to be kept moist and the surrounding humidity needs to be high, but the soil in the pot should not be too wet or too dry.

3. Fertilization

Rhododendrons like fertilizer, but because their root system is too fine, they should not be fertilized too much or too concentratedly. Follow the principle of applying dilute fertilizer frequently. Apply dilute organic fertilizer every ten to fifteen days during the growing season, such as fish water, bone meal, or use slow-release vegan slow-release fertilizer. Stop fertilizing during the high temperatures in summer and dormancy in winter.

4. Repotting

Rhododendron grows rapidly and consumes a lot of nutrients. In addition to top dressing, it needs to be repotted every two to three years. The time for repotting is in early spring after flowering, or in late autumn. When repotting, remove about one-third of the old soil, remove dead roots and old roots, and replace with new planting soil. During the soil change, you can put decomposed organic fertilizer or full-speed compound fertilizer at the bottom of the pot.

5. Soil

Rhododendron cultivation requires loam with high humus, fertility, looseness and good drainage, or fallen leaves of larch.
