What soil is suitable for growing sunflowers?

Sunflower soil

Sunflowers are very flexible in their choice of soil conditions. They can be planted in any soil with good drainage, from sandy loam to heavy clay loam, from slightly acidic soil to highly alkaline soil, from barren sandy soil to fertile black soil. If transplanting is involved later, ordinary soil will suffice.

Sunflowers can be grown in ordinary soil. Sunflowers have strong resistance to adversity, and are resistant to waterlogging, drought, and saline-alkali. They can grow normally in soil with a salt content below 0.5%. In addition, nutrient soil can also be used, so that the sunflowers can grow better.

Sunflower soil preparation method

1. Nutrient soil

The best soils are peat soil, culture soil and mixed soil. Remember not to cover the soil too thickly. Sunflowers can be sown in any season, so the specific time of sowing is determined by the time of flower arching.

2. Wood ash soil

Sunflowers like warm, humid, loose, and well-drained soil. You can also mix it yourself by mixing peat soil, forest soil, rotted soil, and a small amount of lime powder in the ratio of 2:1:1:1, and keep the surrounding area moist.

Changing the soil for sunflower potting

1. Potted sunflowers need to be repotted and the soil changed every two years. If the soil is not replaced in time, the branches and leaves will gradually lose their color. Be sure not to damage the roots during the repotting and soil changing process. You can use garden soil as the substrate for potted sunflowers, and add some leaf mold to make the plants grow better.

2. The roots of sunflowers are relatively developed. When repotting, the soil needs to be kept slightly moist. Do not let the soil dry out for too long. Generally, watering it once every 5 days is sufficient.
