The main value of the Chinese giant pearl: ornamental

Ampelopsis thomsoniae is native to tropical West Africa. It was introduced to Britain in 1790, mainly for greenhouse cultivation and ornamental purposes, and is widely cultivated in botanical gardens across Europe. At present, Europe and the United States use Clerodendrum thomsoniae as potted plants for viewing, to decorate windowsills and small courtyards in summer.

To date, Israel's Yager Nursery and Australia's OsPacific Plant Company have begun industrial production and supply the international market.

The history of cultivation of Clerodendrum thomsoniae in my country is not long. Guangzhou in the south in the early 20th century. It is cultivated in cities such as Xiamen. After the founding of New China, botanical gardens across the country introduced the species for greenhouse cultivation. At present, mass production has been carried out in cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Zhuhai. Potted Clerodendrum thomsoniae can be seen in flower markets everywhere and are beginning to enter the home potted ornamental plants.

The inflorescence is axillary; it blooms in spring and summer, and the flowers are very beautiful. The calyx is white and large, and the upper part of the corolla is dark red. When the flower blooms, the red corolla extends from the white sepals, just like a dragon spitting pearls, hence the name. A delicate woody vine with four-sided stems. Simple leaves are opposite, dark green, ovate-rectangular or ovate, gradually pointed at the apex, rounded at the base, with three veins from the base, entire margin, and short petiole. Cymes are terminal or axillary, sparse, dichotomously branched, with short, green calyx tube, white, ovate, persistent lobes, cylindrical, weak corolla tube, 5 lobes dark red, extending from the calyx, with very long stamens and styles protruding from the corolla, very beautiful.

Long Tong Zhu Nature and flavor: light taste; neutral

Functions and indications of Long Tu Zhu: clearing away heat, cooling blood, reducing swelling and detoxifying. Treat fever, epilepsy, cough, vomiting blood, sore throat, dysentery, carbuncle, boils, snake and insect bites, and burns caused by hot water or fire.

Additional recipe for Long Tong Zhu: For treating postpartum bleeding and abdominal pain: Put 2 taels of fresh Long Tong Zhu in a wok, spray it with wine and stir-fry, then spray it again and stir-fry until slightly charred, add a handful of rice and boil it into a soup and drink.

Treat snake and insect bites: 4 liang of dried Ampelopsis pilosula, soaked in 20 liang of wine (can be used in two weeks). Whenever you apply medicine to wounds, take a small cup of this wine internally.
