How long is the growth cycle of yam?

Introduction to Yam Growth

Yams generally grow in bushes on hillsides, by streams, and on roadsides. They are distributed in Korea, Japan, and China. In my country, they are distributed in Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi and other places.

Yam growth cycle

Yam is a short-day, warm-loving crop. It is suitable for growing in loose, fertile, deep soil. It is not suitable for planting in soil with too shallow groundwater level or too wet. Its production cycle is 1-2 years.

Yam growth rate

The growth rate of yam is slow, and its growth process is divided into three stages: germination, growth and maturity, and tuber expansion. Yam sprouts quickly, which takes 20-30 days under field conditions. The germination time of yam is longer, lasting 40-50 days. It takes 50-60 days from the appearance of buds to the formation of tubers.

Yam growth cycle management

Generally speaking, the yield of yam per mu can reach about 500-2500 kilograms, and the yield of iron stick yam is very low, its yield per mu is about 1000 jin.

Temperature management : The optimum temperature for yam seedling growth is between 15-20℃, and the optimum temperature for its peak growth period is between 25-28℃. It grows slowly below 20℃. During the tuber dormancy period, the temperature should be controlled at around 1-2 degrees.

Fertilization management : Yam requires a lot of fertilizer and has a long growth period. It needs organic fertilizer with a long fertilizer effect. In the early stage of yam growth, it needs an appropriate amount of fast-acting nitrogen fertilizer. In the middle and late stages of growth, it needs to be supplied with sufficient phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.
