Introduction to Licorice Growth

Artificially cultivated licorice is mainly produced in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, the Hexi Corridor in Gansu, the surrounding areas of Longxi and parts of Ningxia in China. Wild licorice is mainly distributed in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Ningxia, Gansu, Shuozhou in Shanxi and other areas.

Licorice growth cycle

Licorice has a relatively long growth cycle. It is generally a herbaceous plant that lives for more than two years. It likes long sunshine and grows well in an environment with abundant sunshine and low temperature. It is suitable for planting in sandy loam with deep soil and good drainage.

Licorice growth rate

Growth process : The growth cycle of the aboveground part of licorice is one year. It dies in late autumn, and the roots and rhizomes overwinter in the soil. It breaks through the soil and turns green in early May of the following year. It begins to bloom in early June, enters the peak flowering period and the beginning of fruiting in early July, enters the fruit ripening period in mid-August, and enters the late stage of withering and yellowing in early October.

Licorice Growth Cycle Management

The per-acre yield of licorice is mostly between 1200-1600 jin, and its harvest period is between 2-3 years. Under the cold temperate climate conditions, the annual average temperature is 2-2.8℃, the frost period is 200 days, the groundwater level is 2-5 meters, and the pH value is 7.2-8.5.

When preparing the land before direct sowing of licorice, apply 3000kg of farmyard manure per 667 square meters. During the growing period of licorice, no topdressing is required, just pay attention to weeding.
