How long is the growth cycle of okra?

Introduction to Okra Growth

Okra generally refers to okra, which is an annual herb of the Malvaceae family. It likes warmth and is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. It also has a very large cultivation area in my country's Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei and other provinces.

Okra growth cycle

Okra is light-loving, heat-resistant and cold-averse, requires a long period of light, is also drought-resistant and moisture-resistant, but not waterlogged, and has a wide adaptability to soil, but grows well in sandy loam that is fertile and loose, has a deep soil layer, and has strong water and fertilizer retention capabilities.

Okra is an annual plant. It takes 50-55 days for it to bloom after germination. It only takes 85-120 days from flowering to harvesting, so the entire growing period is about 170 days.

Okra growth rate

Okra develops from seeds. After its seeds are buried in the soil, they will break through the soil, sprout and grow stems, and then many leaves will grow on the stems. When it blooms from May to September, small flowers will bloom in the middle of its leaf axils. After the flowers are pollinated, they will produce fruits, which is the common okra.

After okra blooms and bears fruit, its growth rate accelerates and its growth becomes stronger, especially under high temperature conditions. In July, a true leaf unfolds every 3 days, and in September, it takes 4 to 5 days to unfold a true leaf.

Okra growth cycle management

Okra is also widely planted in my country. The variety and planting management directly affect the yield. Generally, the yield of okra per mu is about 4,000 to 6,000 kilograms.

Temperature Management:

Okra will stop growing when the temperature is below 8℃. The seeds can germinate smoothly when the temperature is around 15℃, but its suitable temperature for growth is between 25~30℃. It will bloom more, the fruits will develop quickly and the yield will be high at 26~28℃.

Fertilization management:

1. Okra needs to be applied with sufficient base fertilizer before planting. It plays a basic role in the growth process of okra, ensuring that there are sufficient nutrients in the soil so that okra can take root and sprout quickly.

2. The first topdressing fertilizer is applied three days after the emergence of seedlings. The main purpose of this fertilization is to make the seedlings look neat and tidy. Urea is usually used to promote the growth of okra seedlings. On average, about 100 kilograms of urea is required per acre, and it is fertilized by spraying.

3. Fertilizer for seedling growth should be applied about ten days after planting. It can improve the survival rate of okra, shorten the growth time, make the seedlings grow faster, and bloom and bear fruit earlier.
