How long is the growth cycle of konjac?

Konjac Growth Introduction

Konjac is the general name for the genus Arum of the Araceae family. It likes warm and humid environments, and likes to grow in places with a long suitable temperature period but not suitable for extreme heat and dryness. It grows under sparse forests, on the edge of forests or on both sides of stream valleys. Its main production areas in my country are the hilly areas of southern provinces, the Qinling Mountains and Daba Mountains, the Sichuan Basin, the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, southern Yunnan and Taiwan.

Konjac growth cycle

There are two types of konjac leaves, one is large compound leaves and the other is modified leaves. The petiole of konjac contains a special post-lignified tracheid, which greatly helps in supporting the petiole. Its compound leaves determine its photosynthesis and are an important factor in regulating and controlling yield quality.

The growth cycle of konjac is different in different planting areas. For example, the growth cycle of konjac along the Han River in Shaanxi is 180 days, the growth cycle along the Wei River in Guanzhong is about 150 days, and the growth cycle in Wanxian, Sichuan is about 210 days.

Konjac growth rate

The growth process of konjac generally includes four periods: seedling stage, head change stage, tuber enlargement stage and tuber maturity stage. The seedling stage includes germination, rooting, leaf expansion and initial tuber growth.

The growth rate of konjac is not very fast. Generally, taro is planted in early April and sprouts after 60 days. The plants gradually wither and fall over in October and November, and the tubers can be harvested after 30 days. Generally, the growth period from planting to harvesting is about 150 to 180 days.

Konjac Growth Cycle Management

The annual yield of konjac per mu is about 4,000-5,000 jin. Konjac has very high requirements for the growing environment, so field management must be done well throughout its entire growth cycle.

Temperature Management

The suitable temperature required for konjac's growth period is 15-25 ℃. It starts to grow roots at 12 ℃ and sprouts at 15 ℃. It grows well at 20-25 ℃ during the tuber swelling period.

Fertilization management

Because konjac grows tubers, it requires a large amount of fertilizer. It is necessary to apply fertilizer in time after the seedlings emerge. Using human and animal manure, urea or ammonium sulfate to promote seedlings can help the plants grow as quickly as possible.
