How to graft camellia

How to graft camellia

Camellia grafting time

It is generally better to graft camellia in June or July. Because at this time, the leaves of the camellia have unfolded and the temperature conditions are relatively suitable, the survival rate will be relatively high.

Camellia grafting method

Camellia grafting is generally done by branch grafting, and the rootstock is usually the tea tree. The rootstock can be processed in advance, and 3 to 5 main branches can be selected on the tree as grafting branches. They can be pruned and the joints can be flattened before grafting.

When grafting, choose relatively sturdy branches without diseases and insect pests on the mother plant of the camellia to be grafted, and the buds should be full and substantial. Cut the grafted iris into small sections, making sure each section has side buds. Cut off half of the leaves on the grafted iris, and then you can start grafting.

Choose a relatively smooth place on the wooden edge of the processed rootstock and make a cut directly downwards, making sure the cut is aligned with the graft. Insert the graft into the rootstock, and the outer bark of the rootstock can wrap it.

According to this method, several grafted vines are grafted onto the rootstock and then tied together. Plastic film can be used for bundling and needs to be tied tightly.

Camellia grafting maintenance

Grafted camellia needs proper maintenance. Cover the treated grafted rootstock with a plastic bag to keep it moist. If the light is strong, timely shading is needed. During the maintenance period, new buds should be removed in time to avoid excessive consumption of nutrients.

Grafted camellia can grow faster and take shape quickly.
