How to prune the roots of chives

Do chives need root pruning?

After the spring, you can prune the roots of the leeks and add soil to them, and manually remove some old and weak roots in the root system to avoid wasting nutrients.

The leeks just bought online need to have their roots trimmed. Their root system is very developed and can penetrate deep into the soil to absorb nutrients, so you need to cut off part of its root system.

Hydroponic leeks need to have their roots trimmed, removing the rotten old roots and leaving the fresh white roots of the leeks. Then buy a special hydroponic box with small round holes on it for cultivation.

Chive root pruning and potting

After digging out the old leek roots, trim the root system, trim off all the capillary roots, and leave the main root part for planting.

After pruning the roots of leeks, soak them in clean water for one day before planting to ensure that they germinate and grow as soon as possible. They can also be soaked in a solution of carbendazim to eliminate some bacteria and fungal diseases. Generally, after pruning the roots, place them in a well-ventilated location and they can be potted in about half a day.

Leek root pruning maintenance

1. After transplanting the leek seedlings, water them immediately to help them take root. Be careful not to water too much. Water slowly and in small amounts to encourage water to seep in. Water appropriately according to the soil moisture conditions.

2. Place it in a ventilated place indoors for a few days first. Avoid strong sunlight. After a few days, place it in a well-lit place.
