Cultivation methods and precautions of succulent plants

Cultivation methods and precautions of succulent plants

1. Lighting

When growing succulents at home, you must make sure they are exposed to more sunlight. Succulents with sufficient light will grow short and strong and will easily color. Succulents without light will become thin and leggy. However, they still need to be shielded from the intense sunlight in summer to prevent sunburn.

2. Temperature

Succulent plants have certain temperature requirements. If the temperature exceeds 35℃ in summer, you need to pull up a shade net and sprinkle water on the ground to cool it down. In winter, the maintenance temperature should be kept above 5℃ to promote their safe wintering. Normally, the temperature difference between day and night should be increased to help the succulent plants to color.

3. Watering

During the growing seasons of spring and autumn, wait until the soil is completely dry and water it thoroughly. In summer, succulents are dormant, so wait until the soil is completely dry and water it a little along the edge of the pot. Water it in the morning and evening. In winter, when the temperature is below 10℃, wait until the soil is completely dry and water it a little along the edge of the pot. Water it at noon. If the temperature is below 5℃, stop watering immediately.

4. Ventilation

In spring, summer and winter, it is best to grow them outdoors if conditions permit. When growing indoors, you must pay attention to ventilation and open windows frequently. In summer and rainy seasons, you can use a small fan to blow air on the succulents to increase air circulation.

5. Fertilization

Succulent plants do not require much fertilizer and water. You only need to mix cake fertilizer, bone meal or slow-release fertilizer into the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer when repotting in spring and autumn every year.

6. Pests and diseases

Succulents are most likely to attract diseases and pests. You can prevent them by lowering the room temperature, increasing ventilation and cleaning up dead leaves. In addition, in spring and summer, you can rotate the spraying of carbendazim and flower protector, or sprinkle some white medicine, namely, dinotefuran, along the edge of the pot to prevent pests.
