Introduction to Gastrodia elata

Gastrodia elata is a herbaceous plant of the Orchidaceae family and the Gastrodia genus. It is one of the precious Chinese medicinal materials. Gastrodia elata has been used as a medicinal material for more than 1,000 years. The health-preserving wine that can be brewed from Gastrodia elata is regarded as a treasure in the palace and is very precious.

Gastrodia elata is also known as red arrow, single-wave zhi, Limu, Helicao, Shencao, Guiduyou, Mupu, Mingtianma, Dingfengcao, and white dragon skin. Gastrodia elata is divided into red gastrodia elata, green gastrodia elata, pine gastrodia elata, black gastrodia elata, and yellow gastrodia elata.

Gastrodia elata planting conditions

Gastrodia elata has no roots or leaves, and cannot carry out photosynthesis on its own. It relies on Armillaria mellea to supply nutrients for reproduction. Gastrodia elata prefers a cool and humid environment, is not cold-resistant, is not heat-resistant, is afraid of stagnant water, and is not drought-resistant.

Climate and Temperature for Gastrodia Elata Planting

Gastrodia elata prefers a slightly warm environment and is not resistant to low temperature environments. The suitable growth temperature is between 10 and 30 degrees, and the optimal growth temperature is between 20 and 25 degrees.

Suitable areas for growing Gastrodia elata

Gastrodia elata mainly grows in areas with high altitudes of 800 to 2500 meters. Common wild varieties are mostly distributed in mountainous areas with high altitudes. They generally grow in Sichuan, Yunnan, Shaanxi and Hubei in China. There are wild Gastrodia elata in Jilin Province.

Gastrodia elata planting time

Gastrodia elata can be planted from late October to April of the following year. It can be sown before the soil freezes from late October to early December. It can also be sown after the temperature rises in spring from March to April. The sowing time in high-altitude mountainous areas can be postponed to May.

Gastrodia elata planting benefits

The yield of Gastrodia elata cultivated on a large scale is very high, with an average yield of about 750 kilograms per mu, and the market purchase price is about 100 yuan per kilogram. However, the initial investment in factory-based production of Gastrodia elata is relatively large, so do not blindly follow the trend and plant it on a large scale without a successful trial.

If the technology is mastered, the yield and benefits of Gastrodia elata are very considerable, and the net income per mu is also tens of thousands of yuan. After planting Gastrodia elata, farmers can also engage in other work, because Gastrodia elata does not require fertilizer and weeding, which saves us a lot of work.
