How to prune the roots of Acorus calamus

How to prune the roots of Acorus calamus

Does Acorus calamus need root pruning?

Root pruning has a great impact on the growth of calamus. You can cut off the lowest one-third of the roots to make the nutrients more concentrated and promote the growth of the plant.

The Acorus calamus you just bought online needs to have its roots trimmed. You can trim off the rotten and old roots to promote better growth of its roots.

As for the hydroponic Acorus calamus, root trimming is generally required. When cultivating, choose the flower container according to the size of the plant, trim off the old and rotten roots, and then put it in the pot after disinfection.

Root trimming of Acorus calamus and potting

Step 1: The medicines and slow-release fertilizers needed for potting, DX insecticide and 101 slow-release fertilizer should be determined according to personal circumstances, but carbendazim is a must. Be sure to wash the original planting soil clean, without any original soil on the roots, and clean up the yellow and rotten leaves.

Step 2: The roots need to be immersed in the carbendazim solution for more than half an hour, and then the soil is rinsed with clean water to avoid excessive carbendazim residue in the soil.

Step 3: After washing the calamus, dry the roots in a cool place or under an electric fan. Do not plant with wet roots.

Maintenance of Acorus calamus after root pruning

1. After the calamus is potted, it cannot be watered immediately to avoid root rot. After it adapts to the new environment, it can be watered every day.

2. After the calamus is potted, it can be placed under diffuse light for maintenance. It cannot be placed in direct sunlight, as the plant will wilt, which is not conducive to the repair of its roots.
