Introduction to Chestnut

Chestnut is also called chestnut, Kuili, hairy chestnut, wind chestnut, and cone chestnut. It is native to China and is one of the earliest famous nuts eaten in my country. Its annual output is very high.

There are many varieties of chestnuts, which can be divided into northern chestnuts and southern chestnuts. The main varieties of northern chestnuts include Jinfeng, Haifeng, Shifeng, Yanshan red chestnut, Hongguang chestnut, Hongli, Zaofeng, Houhanzhuang 20, etc. The main varieties of southern chestnuts include Jiujiazhong, Jiaozha, Qingmaoruanci, Duanzha, Chushuhong, Chenguoyouli, etc.

Chestnut Planting Conditions

Chestnuts are found in plains to mountains at an altitude of 2,800 meters, and are cultivated. It is a light-loving tree species. Sufficient sunlight and dry air during the flowering period can increase the fruit set rate. Therefore, chestnut trees are best planted on semi-sunny slopes, sunny slopes or open areas.

Climate and temperature for chestnut planting

When the average annual temperature is between 10.5 and 21.8 degrees, it is more suitable for the planting and growth of chestnuts. If the temperature is too high, it will affect hibernation, resulting in poor growth and development. If the temperature is too low, chestnuts will be damaged by frost, which will greatly restrict their growth and development.

Suitable areas for chestnut cultivation

Chestnuts are suitable for growing in places with relatively low groundwater levels and good soil drainage. Do not choose saline-alkaline soils, windy and low-lying and waterlogged places. my country's chestnut producing areas are distributed from Liaoning and Jilin in the north to Guangdong and Guangxi in the south. The main producing areas are Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Zhejiang, Guangxi, Guizhou and other provinces.

Chestnut planting time

The chestnut planting time is from early November to February of the following year. Choose mature and plump seeds for sowing. If you plant chestnut seedlings, you can do it in spring and autumn. In spring, you can plant them before germination, and in autumn, it is best to plant them after the beginning of autumn.

Benefits of chestnut planting

The wood of chestnut is hard, dense, water-resistant and moisture-resistant. It can be used in shipbuilding, making floors, bridge boards, and furniture. The branches, leaves, bark and involucre of chestnut contain more tannins, which can be used to extract industrial raw materials. Chestnut is rich in nutrients. It can relieve osteoporosis and arteriosclerosis, has the effects of stopping bleeding, activating blood circulation, nourishing the stomach and spleen, and is a very good nutritious fruit.
