Are roses suitable for deep or shallow pots?

Should roses be potted in deep or shallow pots?

It is generally better to care for roses in deep pots, because the root system of roses is very developed. When they are cared for in shallow pots, the breathing and growth of the roots will be inhibited, which is not conducive to the later growth. Deep pot care can allow the roots of roses to have a very loose growth space.

When planting roses, you can choose a flowerpot with good air permeability and water permeability, so that the roots can breathe well while growing. On rainy days, the soil will have better drainage. Usually, clay pots or ceramic pots are most suitable.

How to repot roses

1. Rose repotting time

It is generally more appropriate to repot roses in March to May in spring or July or August in autumn. This will not only increase the survival rate of roses, but also allow roses to adapt to the environment as quickly as possible during their later growth.

2. Watering roses after repotting

Roses need to be watered frequently after being repotted. Generally, they need to be watered thoroughly once they are just planted. After they have adapted to the pot, they only need to be watered once every 3-5 days. The frequency of watering can be increased when the climate is dry in summer.

3. Things to note when repotting roses

(1) Removing the rose from the pot: Before removing the rose from the pot, you need to control the water in advance, so that it will be easier to remove the rose from the pot. If you water it normally, the chances of the roots being damaged when removing the rose from the pot will be greater.

(2) Pruning: After the rose is removed from the pot, in order to save nutrients and reduce nutrient consumption, it is necessary to prune away the old roots, diseased roots and weak roots.

(3) Disinfection: After pruning, the roots of roses need to be disinfected. After the wounds are dried, they can be soaked in rooting water for a few minutes. This will help the roots to grow faster.
