When is the best time to sow mint?

Mint sowing time

Mint, also known as silver dan grass, is a plant of the Lamiaceae family. The suitable time for mint sowing is relatively long. It can be sown in spring, summer and autumn. The specific sowing time is March to June and September. The sowing survival rate in these two time periods is relatively high, but the specific sowing time still needs to be determined according to the climatic conditions of each place.

Mint sowing method

1. Germination treatment

First clean the mint seeds, then soak them in warm water at 40℃ for about 5 hours, then place the soaked seeds in a higher temperature environment for germination, cover them with a wet cloth, and moisturize them every day. They will turn white in about 20 days.

2. Soil preparation

Before sowing, prepare a clay pot and choose loose, breathable, and high-water-holding sandy soil. After thoroughly disinfecting the soil once, pour an appropriate amount of water on it, and then loosen the soil to keep it soft and moist.

3. Planting and sowing

Place the germinated seedlings in the soil separately, avoid planting them too densely, and keep the distance between each plant at about 20 cm. After planting, cover the seedlings with a 2-3 cm layer of fine soil, water them with a small amount of water, keep them moist, and place them in a sunny place.

4. Post-planting management

After mint is planted, the soil should be kept moist at all times. It should be watered once every half a month during the seedling stage and a small amount of urea solution should be applied every month. Fertilization should be combined with watering. Irregular weeding should be done in the middle of the growth period to avoid consuming nutrients and make the mint grow more luxuriantly.

Mint ripe for harvest

Generally speaking, it takes about five months for mint to mature and be picked from the time it is sown, and it usually matures in October every year.
