How to propagate foliage begonias? Can leaves propagate?

1. Breeding Methods

1. Seed propagation: Ornamental foliage begonia can be propagated by sowing. As long as the seeds are mature and the environment is suitable, the germination rate can reach about 70%. Prepare loose and fertile soil, sprinkle the seeds on it, cover with a layer of fine soil, water it a little and wait for germination. After germination, you can thin out the seedlings and keep the strong seedlings.

2. Cutting propagation: Cutting is a commonly used propagation method for ornamental foliage begonias. Its leaves are relatively large and have strong regeneration ability. Adventitious roots can easily grow after the leaf veins are cut. Usually clean river sand is used as the substrate. The back of the leaf is scored and then laid face up on the sand with the petiole inserted into it. After cuttings, press them down with glass, but don't cover them completely, leaving a little space. Usually callus will form in 20 days, and new roots and leaves will grow in 35 days. Keep the soil ventilated afterwards.

3. Propagation by division: Ornamental foliage begonia can also be propagated by division. It is usually combined with repotting. After taking the plant out of the pot, divide it into several clumps and then plant them separately. After potting, place it in a semi-shaded place, water it appropriately and wait for it to acclimate. Then carry out normal maintenance after it resumes growth.

2. Can leaves reproduce?

The leaves of the foliage begonia can be propagated. Its leaves have a strong ability to regenerate, and by making incisions they can be stimulated to grow adventitious roots and buds, which can then be used for cuttings to grow new plants.
