When is the right time to sow cabbage?

Cabbage planting time

Cabbage is highly adaptable, cold-resistant and heat-resistant. Generally, cabbage can be sown in spring, summer and autumn, but the most suitable time for sowing is from the end of July to August 20 in summer. The climate at this time is more suitable for its growth and the survival rate is high.

How to sow cabbage

Before sowing cabbage seeds, they need to be exposed to the sun for 3 days. After that, they need to be soaked in a diluted potassium permanganate solution for 4 to 5 hours. Then, the seeds need to be taken out, washed, and wrapped in a wet towel for germination. The temperature should be controlled between 20 and 25 degrees. The germination will be successful after about 3 days.

Water the seedbed before sowing and cover it with a shallow layer of soil. Then sow the germinated seeds directly on the seedbed. Sow 5 to 6 grams on each seedbed. Cover it with about 0.5 cm of soil after sowing. After the seeds germinate and grow 2 or 3 true leaves and cabbage, they can be transplanted.

Cabbage ripe for harvest

Generally speaking, after sowing, if the environment is suitable and the cabbage is properly maintained, it will mature in about 50-70 days and can then be harvested.

The per-acre yield of different varieties of cabbage is also different. The per-acre yield of early-maturing varieties of cabbage is 1,600-2,400 kilograms, while the per-acre yield of mid-maturing varieties is 1,750-2,400 kilograms, and the per-acre yield of late-maturing varieties is 3,000-3,500 kilograms.
