How long does it take for okra to germinate?

Okra is an annual herb and a favorite fat-reducing food. Okra loves warmth, fears severe cold, and has strong heat resistance. It can generally be planted from early April to late August. In a greenhouse with constant temperature, it can be planted in early March.

The seed shell of okra is relatively hard. Before sowing, the seeds should be soaked in warm water to germinate. It will take about 3 to 5 days for them to turn white and sprout.

Okra germination time

The most suitable temperature for okra seed germination and growth period is 25-30℃. When the temperature is lower than 17℃, it will affect flowering and fruiting. When the temperature is suitable, okra can break through the soil 4-5 days after sowing.

Management of okra after emergence

1. Thinning

When the okra seedlings grow the first leaf, they must be thinned out in time and the weaker seedlings must be removed. When they grow three true leaves, they can be transplanted, leaving only one seedling in each seedling hole.

2. Keep moist

Okra grows well in a humid environment, so water the seedlings regularly after they emerge to keep the soil moist and improve the survival rate of the seedlings.

3. Weed and insect control

During the development period of okra, weeding should be done frequently to ensure the nutrients needed for okra growth and avoid competition among weed seedlings. Also, attention should be paid to the prevention and control of diseases and pests to reduce the incidence of okra seedlings.
