Lotus seed sowing time

Lotus seeds are the seeds of the lotus family, distributed in provinces in northern and southern China. They have the effects of tonifying the spleen and stopping diarrhea, benefiting the kidneys and astringing semen. Lotus seeds can be sown from April to August.

Lotus seed sowing method

1. Time : Lotus seeds do not have a specific dormancy period. As long as the temperature can be maintained above 16 degrees Celsius during sowing, they can be sown all year round.

2. Seeds : When processing lotus seeds, the shell is very hard. Before soaking the seeds, use pliers to clamp the end of the lotus seed with a small dent, or grind a small hole in the ground.

3. Germination : Soak the lotus seeds in a container filled with water. While soaking, they should be placed in a warm environment. They will germinate in about a week and grow fine roots and tender leaves after two weeks.

4. Transplantation : Prepare a flowerpot without bottom holes for lotus seeds, add half a pot of river mud, soak it in water in advance, and press the roots of the sprouted lotus seeds into the river mud.

Lotus seed planting tips

1. Light : Lotus seeds need to be maintained in good sunlight. Its growth cannot be separated from sunlight. If there is a lack of sunlight, it will seriously affect its growth and flowering. It needs to be exposed to direct sunlight for at least 5-6 hours a day. The best way is to place it in a sunny place where it can be easily exposed to sunlight.

2. Maintain water temperature : The growing environment of lotus seeds needs to be kept warm, and the water temperature should be kept above 20 degrees Celsius to promote good growth and ensure good flowering.

3. Soil selection : Before planting lotus seeds, a suitable substrate needs to be provided to ensure a good growth foundation. Natural pond mud and silt can be used. If not, a mixture of garden soil, loess and yellow sand can be used, or a certain amount of base fertilizer can be applied to maintain the nutritional needs of growth.

4. Reasonable fertilization : In addition to the base fertilizer applied when the lotus seeds are potted, special fertilizer should also be applied regularly. The lotus stems must not be allowed to come into direct contact with the fertilizer. Fertilizer can be applied once every 3-4 weeks to ensure good nutrition.
