How to grow mint?

If you are interested in herbs, aromatic plants or plants that can be used to make tea, then growing a pot of mint is definitely a good choice. Mint is a very hardy plant that thrives wherever there is soil and sunlight, and it is easy to grow in pots or flower beds. When planted in the yard, it can even rival weeds in growth. Let’s learn how to grow mint.

1. Cutting propagation

You don't have to buy ready-made mint pots . You can directly cut some mint branches or dig out old roots and plant them in pots.

2. Choose the right flower pot and soil

In order to promote the rapid growth of mint, spring and summer are its vigorous growth period, and suitable flower pots and soil should be prepared for it at this time. Choose a large flowerpot with a diameter of more than 20 cm and a certain depth to accommodate its well-developed root system.

3. Fertile Soil

Mint needs to absorb a lot of nutrients during its growth, so ensure adequate supply of water and fertilizer. Apply diluted liquid fertilizer or organic fertilizer at least once a month to promote strong branches and lush foliage.

4. Plenty of sunlight

Mint likes sunlight. Adequate sunlight can make the branches thicker and the leaves brighter in color. If there is not enough light, the mint branches will become weak and the leaves will become lighter in color.

5. Pruning and fertilizing

For mint that is not growing well or has yellowing leaves, you can cut off some branches, cover the surface of the potting soil with some fertile soil or add organic fertilizer, and then water it thoroughly. Place it in a well-ventilated area with plenty of light and the mint will quickly come back to life.

6. Cutting propagation

In spring and autumn, you can cut some mint branches for cuttings, or directly grow them in hydroponics, and they will easily take root.

In short, there are many types of mint, such as mint, spearmint, lemon mint, chocolate mint, etc. Not all types of mint are suitable for consumption, so make sure you know the type before consuming it. Each type of mint has a different scent, so you can choose to grow it according to your personal preference.
