The correct way to fertilize cabbage

The correct way to fertilize cabbage

Autumn is the golden period for growing many vegetables . If we talk about the vegetable with the largest planting area and quantity, it must be cabbage . Although cabbage is easier to cultivate than some melon and fruit vegetables, it is not easy to achieve good growth and abundant yield. This mainly involves careful field management and reasonable fertilization strategies. Let’s learn the correct way to fertilize cabbage.

1. Apply organic fertilizer as base fertilizer during land preparation

Although organic fertilizer has a slower effect and lacks fertility, it can significantly improve the soil environment and comprehensively enhance the growth potential and quality of vegetables. Therefore, the application of organic fertilizer cannot be ignored. For plots of medium fertility, it is recommended to apply 2,000 kg of organic fertilizer per mu.

2. Apply fertilizer about 3 times when planting cabbage

(1) The period from when cabbage is sown until it grows eight or nine leaves is called the seedling stage.

If the growth is good, no top dressing is needed, and the seedlings can be determined mainly by thinning them out 2-3 times. If the growth is weak, top dressing is needed to lay the foundation for the formation of heart. In combination with watering, apply 3-5 kg of urea and 3-5 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. The application of potassium fertilizer can promote the transfer of nutrients to the leaf bulb and promote heart formation.

(2) When the cabbage starts to form a heart.

Continue to apply fertilizer and combine it with watering, applying 3 kg of urea, 1 kg of diammonium phosphate, and 5 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. Phosphorus fertilizer helps the roots absorb nutrients, potassium fertilizer promotes heart formation and accumulation of photosynthetic products, and nitrogen fertilizer is directly used by the plants to promote growth. About 10 days later, apply fertilizer again in the middle stage of heart formation. These two top dressings are sufficient to meet the needs of leaf bulb growth.

(3) Spray calcium-containing micro-fertilizer 2-3 times during the cabbage head period.

Cabbage has a high demand for calcium fertilizer and boron fertilizer. Calcium and boron deficiency are the main causes of cabbage heartburn. Spraying micro-fertilizer can be quickly absorbed by the plants and the effect is significant.

By rationally applying nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium fertilizers and trace elements, the growth quality and yield of cabbage can be effectively improved. During the planting process, the fertilization strategy should be adjusted in time according to the growth stage and needs of the cabbage to achieve the best planting results.
