1. Cutting timeSucculent cuttings are usually taken in spring or autumn. These two seasons are its growing period, and cuttings have a higher survival rate. The temperature is high in summer and the plants enter a dormant state. Cutting cuttings can easily affect the recovery of the original plant, and the cuttings are also prone to rot. Low temperatures in winter will also cause the plant to go dormant, making it difficult for cuttings to take root. 2. Cuttings processingThe cuttings chosen for succulent cuttings vary depending on the location of the cuttings. The most common method is leaf cuttings. Cut a full leaf and put it in a ventilated place to dry. After the wound is dry, you can start cuttings. For some succulents that can be grafted, the method is similar. Cut branches about 10 cm long and wait until the wounds are dry. 3. Pot soil preparationBefore preparing for cuttings, you need to prepare the potting soil. The soil is generally made of humus soil and coal slag, and the ratio of the two is about 6:4. This can ensure that it has good drainage. In order to prevent the cuttings from being eroded by bacteria during their growth, the potting soil needs to be disinfected and spread out in the sun to kill the bacteria and insect eggs through high temperature. 4. Cutting maintenanceInsert the dried cuttings into the substrate. If it is a leaf, you can insert it obliquely or lay it flat. After the cuttings take root, plant them in the soil. It is not advisable to water the plants right after they are transplanted. Wait until the plants have taken root and are planted before watering. Do not water too much. Usually, water thoroughly after the soil is completely dry to avoid a too humid environment that will cause the new roots to rot. |
