Lychee Growing Conditions and Characteristics

Lychee Growing Conditions and Characteristics

Litchi Growth Conditions

Lychees are generally more suitable for growing in high temperature and high humidity environments. They have greater demands for light and stricter temperature requirements. Usually, lychees are mainly produced in southwest, south and southeast China.

The most suitable growth temperature for litchi is around 23-29 degrees. Litchi has a certain degree of cold resistance. Exposing it to a short period of cold environment in winter is also beneficial to its growth, as it can promote the differentiation of litchi flower buds.

Lychee growth period and process

Lychees generally grow in the south. They grow all year round. Early-ripening lychees mature in March, and normally grown lychees mature in June and July.

During the entire growth cycle, litchi will go through the seedling stage, adult stage and senescence stage. Generally, the lychee will have a growth period of 4 to 5 years in its juvenile stage and several decades in its adult stage. After the high yield of lychees, it will slowly enter the senescence stage.

Lychee Planting Process and Methods

1. Site selection and improvement: Choose a sunny slope to plant litchi, and use deep, fertile, slightly acidic soil rich in organic matter and with good drainage.

2. Seed treatment: Select plump litchi seeds with buds and complete appearance, then soak them in warm water for germination, then take them out and wrap them with wet towels for germination.

3. Planting: Plant the processed litchi seeds in the soil, then apply decomposed organic fertilizer, and then pay attention to pruning and management during maintenance.
