What is the best fertilizer for sugarcane?

Sugarcane fertilization time

1. Sugarcane enters the jointing and elongation period in May in summer, and has a large demand for fertilizer. If there is a lack of fertilizer during this period, it will affect the growth of sugarcane and have the greatest impact on the yield. Fertilizer should be applied once every 20-35 days.

2. Sugarcane can be fertilized after rain or when the soil is moist. Topdressing should be combined with soil cultivation to reduce workload. After removing weeds, apply the evenly mixed fertilizer strips 10 cm away from the sugarcane stump, and finally cover it with thick soil.

What fertilizer to use for sugarcane

Sugarcane has a long growth cycle and requires a large amount of fertilizer. One acre of land can produce about eight tons of sugarcane. Its growth requires the most potassium, and its demands for nitrogen and phosphorus are balanced.

Sugarcane fertilization method

1. When fertilizing sugarcane, apply organic fertilizer, potassium fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer as base fertilizer at one time. Nitrogen fertilizer needs to be applied in batches. Generally, 500 to 1,000 kg of farmyard manure, 70 to 100 kg of calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer, 15 to 20 kg of potassium chloride and 10 kg of urea are mixed and used per mu.

2. When applying fertilizer to sugarcane, a certain amount of compound fertilizer can be used in the seedling stage to assist root expansion and growth and enhance sugarcane photosynthesis. The fertilizer demand is large in the middle and late stages, so high-nitrogen compound fertilizer can be added, 15 to 20 kilograms per acre. High-potassium fertilizer can be applied before and after maturity to promote the thickness of the sugarcane and the sweetness of the taste.

Sugarcane fertilization precautions

Sugarcane has a large demand for phosphorus fertilizer in the early growth stage, so do not use compound fertilizers with low phosphorus content. Moreover, it is a chlorine-sensitive crop, so it is not advisable to use potassium chloride type compound fertilizers as base fertilizer to avoid burning the seedlings and affecting the quality of sugarcane in the later stage.
