Cultivation methods and maintenance matters of old honeysuckle piles

How to grow honeysuckle into an old pile

The old honeysuckle stumps are the strangely shaped old tree roots dug back from the mountains in spring and autumn. They are all plants that have been growing for many years. Due to malnutrition, their branches and leaves are not very lush, but the annual rings are very high, basically more than 10 years old. They can be used as bonsai. The old honeysuckle stumps that have grown naturally in the wild for several years are old stumps themselves, and after pruning they can become a pot of old stumps.

If you want to dig up old honeysuckle stumps, you can do it in spring. If you dig it at this time, it will not affect the growth of the plant. It is usually done after the leaves fall or in early spring when the plant has not yet sprouted. Pay attention to protecting its root system. The older the old honeysuckle stump is, the higher the price. The cheapest is a few dozen yuan, and the older ones can cost hundreds of yuan.

Cultivation method of old honeysuckle

Old honeysuckle stumps prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight. They are suitable for maintenance in sunny places and shade in summer. They have a wide adaptability to soil, but are suitable for planting in moist, fertile, loose, and deep sandy loam. You can dig up old stumps in spring, select those with thick, simple, and beautiful trunks, cut off the main trunks, properly trim the rotten roots, and then plant them directly in pots.

Pruning old honeysuckle

Old honeysuckle stumps are usually shaped in a natural style, allowing the side branches on the main trunk to droop naturally. They are pruned 2-3 times a year. Too much pruning will affect the formation of flower buds. Generally, if the old stump grows vigorously, it can be pruned in the autumn of the same year. If the old stump is not very vigorous, it can be pruned when it sprouts in the spring of the second year.

Pot for old honeysuckle

The pot for the old honeysuckle stump should be determined according to the shape and production form of the tree. If you want to make it into a cliff style or a hanging style, you can use a high pot or a medium-deep pot or a thousand-tube pot. If you want to make it into a curved trunk style, you can use a rectangular or round medium-deep pot.

Precautions for the maintenance of old honeysuckle piles

Old honeysuckle stumps are more cold-resistant and drought-resistant. They do not need to be kept warm in winter when planted in the courtyard. If you don't have too many requirements for the shape, just let it go naturally. Water when it's dry and don't water when it's wet. If you want the tree to be in a drooping state, you can move the main branches upwards and let the side branches go naturally. Use wire to tie up the main branches according to the shape you want.

Honeysuckle has strong vitality and its root system is also very strong. In early spring, the root system is relatively developed, and the old stumps can be pruned and potted with cuttings. It is best to leave the old stumps simple and prune the newly developed branches for separate cultivation.

The usual management of potted honeysuckle old piles needs to ensure that the soil is loose and moist. In summer, a thin fertilizer can be applied once a month. When the flower buds are nurtured in June, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be added once to promote large and bright flowers. No fertilizer is needed in winter.
