How long does it take for boxwood cuttings to take root?

Boxwood cutting rooting time

Boxwood can be propagated by cuttings from May to August every year, preferably before and after the peak growth of new shoots. If a suitable maintenance environment is provided for boxwood hardwood cuttings, they can take root in about 25 days.

Under pollution-free and fully enclosed conditions, boxwood can generally grow leaves in about a month. The growth rate is relatively fast. If the maintenance environment is not suitable, the time will be extended.

Boxwood cutting rooting method

1. Prepare a sand bed with good drainage performance, disinfect it with potassium permanganate or carbendazim in advance, cut off the branches with high lignification from the boxwood plants with good growth, which can speed up the rooting process. Be careful not to choose branches that are too tender, cut off the leaves on the lower part, leave 2 to 3 leaves on the upper part, and then soak them in rooting water.

2. Insert the treated branches into the soil, cover and compact the soil, maintain appropriate temperature and humidity, keep the leaves moist at all times, do not over-water, and maintain in a well-ventilated environment. The cuttings will generally take root in about 30 days after cutting.

Boxwood cutting management

1. Boxwood cuttings can be disinfected with carbendazim. The branches and soil need to be disinfected. This can prevent serious diseases and pests during the cutting process and enable the cuttings to grow better.

2. After the boxwood cuttings have taken root, they can be exposed to the sun and provided with weak diffuse light. They should not be exposed to direct sunlight, otherwise the leaves will wilt.

3. Fertilizer can be applied after the boxwood cuttings have taken root. Be careful to apply thin fertilizers frequently and do not use concentrated fertilizers. During the peak growth period, apply nitrogen fertilizer 1-2 times a month. Fertilization can be stopped after autumn.

4. Boxwood needs to be watered after cuttings to keep the soil slightly moist and not too dry. Be careful not to cause water accumulation, otherwise it will affect the rooting speed.
