Cultivation methods and maintenance matters of old piles of Chinese evergreen

How to grow evergreen into an old pile

If you want to grow Chinese evergreen into an old stump, you must provide it with suitable soil. You can use a mixture of garden soil, perlite, river sand, and decomposed fertilizer. Chinese evergreen needs to be exposed to 2-3 hours of scattered light every day during its growth period. The suitable growth temperature is 18-25 degrees. Water it regularly during the growing period, maintain a high air humidity, and apply a thin liquid fertilizer every 15-20 days.

Cultivation method of old pile of Chinese evergreen

The Chinese evergreen needs to be kept in a sunny place, provide bright light, and pay attention to ventilation. The temperature should be kept between 10-30℃. Do not water it too much or too little, just keep the soil in the pot slightly moist. After 2-3 years of maintenance, it needs to be repotted. If it grows too tall, it can be controlled by pruning.

Chinese evergreen likes a moist environment with slightly higher air humidity. Since it likes water, it can be placed directly in a glass vase for hydroponics.

Pruning old Chinese evergreen

1. Pinching: The first step in pruning Chinese evergreen is to pinch it. When the plant grows to about 10 cm, it needs to be pinched appropriately. This can control the height of the potted plant, concentrate nutrients, promote the growth of the plant's side branches, and make the plant fuller.

2. Prune the overgrown branches: If you want the plant to have a beautiful shape, you need to prune the branches and leaves neatly and orderly. During the growth period, the evergreen will grow too long. At this time, you need to control the plant shape. According to the size of the plant, prune the overgrown or too high branches. This can not only ensure the beautiful shape of the plant, but also increase the air permeability of the potted plant, and prevent it from being infected by pests and diseases and dying.

3. Prune excess twigs: During the growth period of the evergreen, many twigs will appear, which not only affects the appearance, but also absorbs the nutrients needed by the plant. At the same time, it is not conducive to ventilation and light transmission, affecting growth. During maintenance, it is necessary to repeatedly prune excess twigs, which can increase the overall permeability of the plant, improve immunity to diseases and pests, and thus make the plant grow better.

Precautions for the maintenance of old Chinese evergreen trees

1. Soil: If you want to grow old Chinese evergreens to the point where they overflow the pot, you must provide them with suitable soil. It needs to be loose, fertile, humus-rich, and well-drained. You can directly purchase nutrient soil for cultivation. If you prepare it yourself, you can mix garden soil, perlite, river sand, and decomposed fertilizer.

2. Adequate light: Old Chinese evergreen plants love light very much. If there is insufficient light for a long time, it will easily cause the Chinese evergreen to grow too tall, affecting its ornamental value. It is best to ensure that it receives about two hours of light every day. If it is maintained indoors, it can be placed on a south-facing balcony or windowsill.

3. Water and fertilizer management: Old Chinese evergreen plants like a humid environment and need to be watered in time during the growing period. The air humidity should be kept at around 70% so that it can grow better. If you want the Chinese evergreen to bloom, you can apply appropriate fertilizers. Apply a thin liquid fertilizer once every 15 days during the growing period.

4. Aerial roots : We don’t need to worry about the aerial roots of Chinese evergreen, because they can play a role, such as breathing, retaining water, etc. Apart from being unsightly, there are no other adverse effects. If you want to propagate quickly, you can cut branches with aerial roots and plant them in the soil. They will adapt to the pot and grow faster than branches without aerial roots.
