How to save peach seeds

How do peach seeds come from?

Peach is a plant of the Rosaceae family and the genus Prunus. It has narrow oval leaves, dark gray bark, solitary flowers in red and white, and blooms in early spring. The drupe is nearly spherical, with short hairs on the surface. The flesh is edible, orange-yellow with a reddish color, and contains white seeds.

Peaches with seeds

Peach seeds can be sown directly, but the results will be slow. You can keep the seeds for yourself, but the seedlings sown will have poor quality, poor taste, and the commercial quality of the fruit is too poor, so you still need to graft high-quality varieties.

The quality of seeds is related to the survival rate of the plants and their later growth. Plants for seed collection should be strong and disease-free. Select fully mature fruits, remove impurities in the pulp, take out the seeds, wash the pulp, place it in a cool and ventilated place, and store it in a dry and cool place after drying to prevent mold.

Peach Seed Saving

The main preservation methods of peach seeds include soil extract preparation, seed preparation treatment, and heat preservation treatment.

Peach seed planting

Peaches are suitable for sowing in late autumn, and they will sprout neatly in the spring of the following year. If they are sown in March or April in spring, the seeds need to be soaked.

Peaches can be soaked in cold water for 3 to 5 days before sowing, and the water should be changed once a day. After soaking, they should be exposed to the sun for 2-3 hours every day, and then covered with warm materials until the seeds germinate. After sowing, the soil needs to be kept moist and maintained in a semi-shaded environment, and the seedlings will emerge soon.
