Ligustrum lucidum is a subtropical tree species with high ornamental value. It can be planted alone or in groups in the courtyard. It is native to China and widely distributed in the Yangtze River basin and various southern parts, including Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Anhui, Shandong, Sichuan, Guizhou, the two lakes, Guangdong and Guangxi, and Fujian.

Ligustrum lucidum likes a warm and humid environment, has a certain degree of cold resistance, water and humidity resistance, is light-loving and shade-tolerant. It needs to be provided with sufficient light during the growth period. It has strong adaptability to the soil and is best planted in sandy loam or clay loam with good drainage. It grows vigorously and is very resistant to pruning, but is not resistant to barrenness.

Ligustrum lucidum likes warmth and is suitable for growing in an environment above 20℃. It has poor cold resistance in winter and can tolerate a minimum temperature of 0℃. Therefore, warming measures need to be taken before winter, otherwise the plant will be frostbitten.

Ligustrum lucidum is suitable for planting in spring and winter. The best time is in spring. It can be planted as soon as it is dug up. Choose loam, sandy loam or light clay that is sheltered from the wind and facing the sun, has fertile soil, convenient irrigation and drainage, and a thick tillage layer for sowing.

Soak the Ligustrum lucidum seeds in water in advance, then level the land and apply sufficient base fertilizer. The base fertilizer should be mainly manure, which will help increase the ground temperature and maintain soil moisture. Then spread the seeds evenly on the surface, keep the soil moist, and maintain it in a well-ventilated and warm place. They will germinate soon.
