Cultivation methods and precautions of tiger thorn bonsai

Euphorbia milii is an ornamental flower that is very easy to grow. It is not very demanding on the soil. When planting, use ordinary garden soil plus leaf mold, and then mix in a small amount of coal slag or river sand. The culture soil only needs to be loose, breathable and well-drained. However, if you grow it in the northern region, you need to be more careful, as it will be much more troublesome than other trees that grow natively.

Cultivation method of tiger thorn bonsai

Euphorbia milii is more commonly planted in southern regions because it is not cold-resistant and may be frostbitten below 5℃. If you want it to survive the winter safely, you must move it indoors in time. It can generally grow safely in summer. Euphorbia milii is more likely to grow only leaves without flowers, so in addition to fertilizing correctly, it should also be pruned in time to control and promote the increase in the number of flowers.

1. Lighting

Euphorbia milii loves sunlight. If it can receive sufficient light all year round, it can bloom even in winter. The flowering period is very long, and the flowers will cover most of the branches.

2. Soil

Euphorbia milii has very strict requirements on the soil. The soil is mainly sandy. Choose soil with good drainage and air permeability. It is generally made of humus soil as the main component and fine sand as the supplement.

3. Watering

Euphorbia milii is native to hot and water-scarce weather, so its leaves are fleshy and have a strong water storage capacity. You cannot water it too much. In summer, in order to cope with the hot and dry weather, you can keep the soil slightly moist to prevent the water from evaporating too much and too quickly. In winter, even if the soil is dry, it doesn't matter. Just wait until it is completely dry and then water it thoroughly again.

4. Fertilization

Euphorbia pilosa needs to be fertilized once every 20 days or so. In the hot summer, you can apply diluted thin fertilizer. After winter, you can extend the fertilization time to once a month and a half. It is easy for Euphorbia pilosa to not bloom and its leaves to grow too long. In this case, you can apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers instead. In addition, apply a small amount of fertilizer before flowering.

Precautions for the maintenance of tiger thorn bonsai

When caring for the Tiger Thorn bonsai, be careful not to touch it. There are thorns on its branches, so avoid scratching it when pruning. In addition, when the soil is moist in summer, in order to prevent problems such as water accumulation and root rot, be sure to place the Tiger Thorn bonsai in a well-ventilated location. Air circulation can not only prevent water accumulation, but also reduce diseases and pests.
