The growing environment and local conditions of lotus seeds

Lotus seed growth environment and conditions

Lotus seeds are mainly distributed in Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang and other provinces. Most lotus seeds are named after the places where they are planted or their shapes. They can be divided into Xianglian, Xuanlian, red lotus, white lotus, Tongxinlian, and Kelian, etc. The Xianglian produced in Xiangtan, Hunan and other places, the Jianlian produced in Jianyang, Fujian, and the Xuanlian produced in Xuanping, Wuyi, Zhejiang, are the three most famous lotus seeds in the country and are popular at home and abroad.

Lotus seed growth conditions

Lotus seeds prefer relatively calm water surfaces and cannot tolerate flowing water with large drops and strong waves. The water depth generally does not exceed 1.5 meters. Sufficient light must be provided during the growth period, and the maintenance environment cannot be too dark, otherwise it will affect flowering and fruiting. The optimum temperature for stems and leaves during the growing season is 20-30 degrees.

The growth process of lotus seeds

If we want to plant lotus seeds, we need to plant lotus roots in the fields first, wait for the lotus roots to sprout and grow lotus leaves, and then after a while the lotus leaves will bloom into lotus flowers. After a while, golden lotus pods will appear, which are very beautiful.

Then, the lotus pod will grow slowly, and many small lotus seeds will grow inside it. When the lotus seeds grow to a certain size, the lotus pods that can be picked should be picked and made into lotus seeds. If they are not picked in time, the lotus seeds will easily become old and will then be difficult to pick.

Lotus seed planting time and method

Lotus seeds can be planted all year round, but it is best to sow them in April and July-September. Generally speaking, they can be sown when the temperature is stable at around 20 degrees. Lotus seeds sown in spring take 50-60 days to bloom, and lotus seeds sown in autumn take 60-80 days to bloom.

Before sowing lotus seeds, you need to choose varieties with full grains and bright colors. Its seed coat is relatively thick, so it needs to be germinated in advance. Change the water with clean water every day, and it will germinate after a week. Put clean silt in the flowerpot and the water level should be about 3 cm higher than the silt. Maintain it in a sunny environment, and lotus leaves will grow in 30 days.
