Phalaenopsis, also known as butterfly orchid, belongs to the orchid family and has been widely loved in recent years for its elegant posture and beautiful flowers. Phalaenopsis prefers a cool environment and is not tolerant of drought, cold, dryness and lack of ventilation, so indoor cultivation is an ideal choice, but good ventilation conditions must be ensured. Let’s learn the cultivation method of Phalaenopsis below. 1. Pot soil selection Choose a larger pot with a diameter of about 30 cm and make sure there is good drainage at the bottom to avoid water accumulation. The soil should be loose and breathable. Leaf mold and peat soil can be added during planting, and small stones can be added to the bottom to enhance drainage. Spread a layer of moss on the surface of the soil to help retain moisture. The best time to repot is in late May, when the plants recover quickly and the risk of disease is low. 2. Watering tips Water twice a week during the growing season to keep the soil slightly moist, and spray water around the plant to increase humidity. Pay attention to indoor ventilation, and move the Phalaenopsis outdoors to bask in the sun in warm seasons. When the temperature exceeds 25 degrees, the Phalaenopsis should be moved back indoors. Avoid watering at night in spring. The best time to water is at noon to prevent low temperatures from affecting flowering. 3. Fertilization method Fertilizer is the key to the lush growth of Phalaenopsis. It is not advisable to fertilize Phalaenopsis orchids that have been newly repotted or have damaged roots immediately. Spring or when new leaves grow after repotting is the best time to fertilize. Fertilize every two weeks to replenish the nutrients needed for flowering. When the temperature exceeds 35 degrees, especially in summer, fertilization should be stopped to avoid root rot. 4. Pruning and division The flower buds should be pruned in time after they wither to reduce nutrient consumption. If the roots grow out of the pot, you can change the pot and cut the roots into two halves and plant them in two pots respectively. After careful care, they will quickly take root and sprout. By mastering the above four cultivation techniques, Phalaenopsis orchids can thrive in your home and easily grow out of the pot. Phalaenopsis not only beautifies the environment, but also adds a touch of elegance and vitality to your life.
