Cultivation methods and maintenance of old Pyracantha

How to grow Pyracantha into an old pile

If you want the Pyracantha to grow into an old stump, you must first water it more, and at this time, do not provide it with light, so that the Pyracantha can grow completely tall and long. Of course, during the growth process of Pyracantha, the shape of the Pyracantha needs to be corrected. Then, expose the Pyracantha potted plants to the sun, remove the long leaves at the roots, and allow the long stems to age quickly. After about a year, the old stump of Pyracantha will be formed.

Pyracantha pile digging is generally carried out in spring and autumn, depending on the local climate, and can be done from October to April of the following year. If the local winter is cold, you can choose to dig the pile in early spring. Generally, an old pile as thick as an index finger costs 30 yuan, and a larger one is no more than 50-60 yuan.

Cultivation method of old pyracantha pile

1. Watering: Old Pyracantha stumps like a humid environment and need to be watered in time during the growth period to keep the soil moist. Do not water unless the soil on the pot surface is dry. Water enough when you water it, but it cannot tolerate waterlogging. Do not water too much. Control water in severe winter and water in the morning and evening in summer.

2. Fertilization: When cultivating old Pyracantha stumps, apply sufficient base fertilizer and apply fertilizer every 10 days during the growth stage. In addition, pay attention to keeping warm when the temperature is low in winter, and stop fertilizing at this time.

3. Disease prevention and pest control: The common disease of Pyracantha is powdery mildew, which can be sprayed with Bordeaux mixture, lime sulfur or carbendazim in time. The common pest is the piercing and sucking scale insect, which can be removed with wire, stick or knife, or furadan can be buried in the flower pot. Aphids will also appear, which can be killed by spraying with omethoate or dichlorvos.

4. Repotting: Old Pyracantha stumps bear fruit every year and consume more nutrients, so they need to be repotted in time. Generally, large and deep pots should be repotted once every two years, and small and shallow pots need to be repotted once a year. The best time to repot is from February to April.

Pruning old Pyracantha stumps

After the Pyracantha is planted and survives, it needs to be coiled and shaped. After the Pyracantha sprouts and branches grow out, pay attention to reasonable screening. For branches other than shaping, you can cut them off to reduce useless nutrient consumption. For the branches that are retained, pay attention to cultivation. You can pull these shaping branches to let them stretch in the direction we need.

For some branches that are too long, you can shorten them appropriately to make them grow new branches and thus create a gradient effect. However, if you want to tie them up and shape them, it is still a bit early. After all, the new branches are relatively tender and have not yet become woody. Tie them up at this time will easily damage the delicate epidermis and cause branch loss.

It is best to shape the branches when they are semi-lignified. At this time, the branch skin is not very delicate and is still relatively flexible. This is the most ideal time. When wrapping the branches, pay attention to wrapping some cloth strips on the branches to protect them from damage. Moreover, wrapping them must be carefully considered and try to shape them in one go. Do not twist them back and forth to avoid damaging the branches.

Pyracantha old stump pot

If the old Pyracantha stump is just potted, a deeper pot should be selected. A purple clay pot or a clay pot with good drainage and air permeability can be used to facilitate drainage and help the stump survive.

Sprouting of old Pyracantha

The rooting of Pyracantha is relatively slow after planting. Pay attention to appropriately increase the soil temperature, water less while ensuring humidity, spray water on the aboveground part to keep it moist and prevent the plant from losing water. It will germinate in about 20 days and new roots will grow in about a month.

Precautions for the maintenance of old Pyracantha

Old Pyracantha stumps are suitable for planting in loose, fertile, well-drained slightly acidic sandy soil or leaf mold plus garden soil. During the flowering and fruit setting period, the soil should be kept moist as much as possible without water accumulation. In autumn and winter, it can be kept slightly dry. The principle is not to water it unless it is dry, and water it thoroughly when you do.

If you want the old Pyracantha stump to bloom and bear more fruits, you need to do a good job of pruning, shorten the overgrown branches, remove useless and messy branches, and increase ventilation and light. Pruning can be done in autumn, retaining the short branches grown that year and cutting off the excess nutritional branches.
