What is the best season to plant longan?

The planting time of longan is generally divided by season. In most areas, it is planted in spring or autumn, specifically from February to March or mid-to-early October. However, the longan planted will generally not bloom or bear fruit until 3-4 years later.

Longan is also known as lychee longan. There are many varieties of longan. The more common ones are Shixia longan, Dongbi longan, Lidongben longan, Fuyan, Chuliang longan, Lingshan Linglong longan, Songfengben longan, etc. Among them, Dongbi longan matures in August and Songfengben longan matures in late September.

Longan harvest season

The maturity time of longan grown in different regions will vary. Generally, Thai longan is harvested in May, and longan in Guangxi and Fujian is harvested in July-August. The average yield per mu is 350-400 kilograms, and the market price is 9-36 yuan per catty.

Steps and methods of planting longan

1. Select the site for deep plowing

Before planting longan, you should choose an area with loose soil and deep soil layer. Before planting, the soil should be deep plowed and the planting depth should be 20-30 cm. Then add appropriate amount of farmyard manure as base fertilizer.

2. Planting

Place the longan seedlings in the dug holes, then fill and compact the surrounding soil. Note that the spacing between plants should be more than five meters.

3. Plastic and pruning

About three years after planting, the trees should be shaped and pruned, and all diseased and dead branches should be cut off. This will help the plants grow better.
