How to prune jasmine bulbs

When to prune jasmine bulbs

Jasmine bulbs can be pruned during the growing season in spring, the flowering period in early autumn, and the dormant period in late winter. Timely pruning can reduce the loss of nutrients, enable better growth and flowering, and improve the ornamental value.

How to prune the branches of jasmine bulbs

1. When the height of the jasmine ball branches reaches 8-10 cm, they can be pinched, so that they will fork at the original pruning place, and the thin branches and overgrown branches can be cut off together, leaving only some thick branches for growth.

2. When pruning jasmine bulbs during the dormant period, you can cut the annual branches short, leaving 10-15 cm below, and then remove all the leaves of the tree. You also need to cut off the weak, diseased, and yellow branches and leaves. When pruning in summer, you need to shorten them to leave 1-2 leaf nodes, and remove the remaining old leaves and dead leaves. Note that you cannot remove them when it is too wet.

Jasmine bulb pruning steps

The first pruning needs to thin out the overly dense branches and shorten the overly long branches, so that the overall look is more symmetrical and increases its ornamental value;

The second pruning needs to cut off the dead flowers and dead buds to reduce nutrient consumption, and all sick and weak branches should be cut off;

During the third pruning, cut off all the overgrown, weak, diseased and insect-infested branches.

Jasmine bulb cuttings

Choose strong branches of jasmine bulbs, cut them into cuttings with two nodes each, trim the leaves at the lower part, leaving only two leaves, and make sure to cut the lower end of the branch into an oblique end, which will be more conducive to the survival of jasmine cuttings.

Insert the prepared jasmine bulb branches into the sandy soil. Be careful not to force the cuttings directly into the soil. You can use wire or your fingers to dig a hole and then put the cuttings in. This will prevent the jasmine cuttings from being worn. Also, pay attention to keep the soil in the pot moist and keep it in a cool and ventilated place. It will take about 30 days to take root.

Precautions for pruning jasmine bulbs

Newly purchased jasmine bulbs need to have all the flower buds and buds trimmed, otherwise they will be difficult to keep alive. Also, some withered and aging branches and leaves should be cut off during cultivation, otherwise the branches will become thin, the leaves will be small and lifeless.
