How to grow lilies

Lily growing conditions

Lilies like a warm environment, and the suitable growth temperature is between 15-25 degrees. They will grow poorly if the temperature is below 10 degrees or above 30 degrees. They like slightly acidic soil with a pH value of 5.5-6.5, and also like soil rich in humus. They avoid waterlogging, like semi-shaded environment, and cannot tolerate direct sunlight.

How to grow lilies

When caring for lilies in pots, you need to change the pot once every spring to maintain the overall beauty of the plant, add thin fertilizer in time, and clean up the dead flowers and yellow leaves in time. Water in moderation, keep the soil slightly moist, ensure sufficient light, and provide the best temperature of around 20 degrees.

Watering lilies

Lilies cannot tolerate waterlogging environments, so they basically don't need to be watered much at normal times. Just keep the soil slightly moist. In the summer or growing season, you can water them more and spray water around the pot frequently to lower the temperature and increase the humidity. But don't let the soil in the pot be too wet when spraying, otherwise its roots will rot.

Fertilizing lilies

Lilies do not require much fertilizer. Just apply a little fertilizer before flowering in spring. Then, during the peak growth period, apply fertilizer once every half a month and clean up the yellow leaves and dead flowers in time.

Lily disease and pest control

There are many diseases of lilies, such as black spot, gray mold and rust. These diseases are mostly caused by bacteria or fungi. Generally, 25% carbendazim diluted 500 times is used for spraying for prevention and control. At ordinary times, attention should be paid to controlling watering and strengthening ventilation to prevent the breeding of bacteria. Its common pests are grubs and aphids, which will eat the roots and rhizomes and suck the juice, and need to be sprayed with drugs such as DDT.

How to grow lilies at home

1. Flower soil: When caring for lilies, you should use soft, slightly acidic flower soil with sufficient nutrients, because lilies have many roots and require more nutrients for growth, so this kind of soil is more suitable.

2. Temperature: Lilies are more suitable for growing in an environment of 16-23℃. They are not very cold-resistant and need to be kept at a temperature above 10℃ in winter.

3. Sunlight: The sunlight at home is generally not very good. In order to provide the lily with sufficient light so that it can bloom normally, it needs to be placed by the window in the south room for maintenance.

4. Fertilization: When lilies grow faster in the spring, you should apply fertilizer every 14-20 days. You should also apply fertilizer before flowering to provide nutrients and help them bloom.

Lily Care Tips

Lilies prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight. If the maintenance environment is dark, there will be fewer flowers. However, if the light is too strong, it will burn the plants. It is best to provide bright scattered light. Apply thin fertilizer once every 20 days during the growth period. More nutrients are consumed during the flowering period, so phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be added.
