What are the cultivation methods and precautions for small roses?

Introduction of Little Rose

The small rose is a plant of the Theaceae family and the Camellia genus. It is a small flower, dark red, semi-double, with slightly wrinkled petals and scattered stamens. It can be propagated by cuttings, grafting, layering, and division.

How to grow small roses

Small roses prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight, are shade-tolerant, and avoid strong sunlight. They prefer a warm, humid environment and are not drought-tolerant. They are suitable for planting in well-drained, loose and fertile loam or light loam. They do not grow well in clay loam and are difficult to bloom.

To care for small roses indoors, you need to apply decomposed fertilizer to the soil as base fertilizer. During the growing season, you can apply a thin liquid fertilizer mainly composed of nitrogen fertilizer once every 10 days. Control the concentration and do not apply concentrated fertilizer.

Watering method

You can try the weight change of the soil in the pot of the small rose. If the soil becomes lighter, it means the moisture has dried out. Then you can water the plant once or twice a week. Watering should be based on weather conditions. You can water it every day in hot summer, and water it thoroughly once the soil is dry.

Fertilization method

If you want small roses to bloom vigorously, you need to apply more liquid fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium during the bud formation period, which is usually done in May. Do not apply too much fertilizer, just a few granular slow-release fertilizers will be enough.

Pruning methods

During the maintenance of small roses, good ventilation must be maintained, and the dense branches and leaves inside the plant should be trimmed frequently to increase light transmission and ventilation. Otherwise, it is easy to be attacked by insects. Common scale insects and black mold diseases need to be prevented and controlled as soon as possible.

Small rose cultivation precautions

In the cold winter, the small roses should be placed in a well-lit location indoors to prevent the plants from being frozen due to the low outdoor temperature. In the summer, the temperature is high and the light is strong, so just avoid direct sunlight on the plants. In the cold winter, the plants should not be placed directly on the heater as they cannot withstand the high temperature of the heater.
