The growth environment and growth conditions of Chlorophytum

Chlorophytum growth environment and conditions

Chlorophytum comosum has a strong adaptability to the environment and prefers a warm and humid semi-shady environment. It is not very demanding on the soil, but it grows best in fertile, loose, well-drained sandy soil. It is native to southern Africa and is now widely planted around the world.

Chlorophytum growing conditions

Chlorophytum likes an environment with plenty of sunlight and can generally grow well under medium light conditions. It is not resistant to direct sunlight and can tolerate semi-shaded environments. However, the maintenance environment cannot be too dark, otherwise the plant will grow poorly.

Chlorophytum growth temperature

The suitable growth temperature for Chlorophytum is between 15 and 25 degrees. It is not cold-resistant and the temperature in winter needs to be above five degrees, otherwise the plant will be frozen. It grows best when the temperature is between 20 and 24 degrees. It is not high temperature resistant and will stop growing above 30 degrees.

Chlorophytum growth process

Chlorophytum generally grows running branches from May to July every year. Its growth cycle takes several years and it will only grow running branches if it is carefully cultivated. Its growth requires sufficient light, timely watering, and good warming measures.

Chlorophytum planting time and method

Chlorophytum can be planted all year round. It has a very high survival rate and strong adaptability. However, the best planting time is spring and autumn, when the temperature and humidity are suitable, and the survival rate of the planting is very high.

1. Seed propagation: In March of spring, you can sow the seeds of spider plant into fertile soil, cover it with a thin layer of 0.5 cm soil, and provide a germination temperature of 15 degrees. It will germinate after 15 days. After the seedlings grow for a period of time, they can be transplanted.

2. Propagation by cuttings: Cut a new seedling from the creeping stem of the spider plant. It must have leaves and aerial roots, so that the growth rate will be faster. Plant it in a flowerpot with good air permeability. It needs to be watered thoroughly once and maintained in a dark and ventilated place.

3. Propagation by division: Take the spider plant out of the pot, clean the soil at the roots, and then separate the roots with sharp scissors. Each clump needs to have three stems, and then plant them in the soil. With careful care, they will grow well.
