How to graft peach trees (time + diagram)

Peach trees are highly adaptable and can grow in arid and barren lands. They are relatively cold-resistant. However, they have a short lifespan and their fruits are not resistant to storage. Therefore, when cultivating seedlings, grafting is needed to speed up the reproduction of peach trees and improve their quality.

Peach tree grafting time

Peach trees can be grafted in three seasons: spring, summer and autumn. In spring, grafting can be done in March and April when the flower buds begin to sprout. In summer, grafting can be done in April to June. In autumn, grafting can be done in August to September, and the survival rate is higher.

Peach tree grafting technology

1. Chip bud grafting

When the diameter of the peach rootstock seedling grows to about 5 mm, grafting is carried out. Do not cut the rootstock after grafting. When the peach tree is grafted and survives about 10 days later, the rootstock is folded about 3 cm above the grafting bud.

2. Grafting

When grafting, first cut the rootstock from the base, then split it vertically 3-4 cm deep from the center of the section. When choosing the scion, it is required to have 2-3 plump bud branches, and then cut a wedge-shaped double bevel with a length of 3-4 cm. Insert the slightly thicker side of the scion into the split of the rootstock. The rootstock and scion should be aligned. The upper part of the cut surface of the scion should be 0.5 cm higher than the cut of the rootstock, and then tie it tightly with plastic strips.
