Is walnut a fruit or a vegetable?

Are walnuts a fruit or a vegetable?

Walnuts are neither fruits nor vegetables, because from a botanical point of view, vegetables are a kind of nuts, which are on a parallel level with vegetables and fruits. They can be used to extract oil or eaten directly. Most of them mature and are on the market from July to September.

Walnut nutritional value

Walnuts taste oily but not greasy, crispy and delicious. The most common way to eat them is to eat them directly. In addition, they can also be made into yogurt walnut kernels, walnut crisps, walnut kernel cold dishes, walnut porridge, amber walnut kernels, etc.

1. Improve blood lipids: Walnuts are rich in unsaturated fatty acids. The linoleic acid in them can prevent the absorption of cholesterol and prevent hyperlipidemia.

2. Strengthen and nourish the brain: Walnuts are rich in phospholipids, which can help people improve their memory, promote brain development, and achieve the effect of strengthening and nourishing the brain.

Walnut Origin and Planting

Common walnut producing areas in my country include Gansu, Ningxia, Shanxi, Hebei, Shaanxi, Yunnan and other provinces. Among them, Shexian County in Hebei Province and Dayao County in Yunnan Province are known as the hometown of walnuts. The quality of the walnuts here is very good.

Walnuts are more suitable to be planted in October in autumn. The growth period is about 7-10 years. The soil requirements are not high, but they prefer planting sites with thick soil and good drainage.
