How to grow hydrangea

Hydrangea is a plant of the genus Geranium. It can generally be propagated by cuttings, sowing, tissue culture, etc. It is very light-loving and prefers a warm growing environment. It is generally suitable for growing at around 15-25 degrees Celsius, and the winter temperature is above 5 degrees Celsius. The soil must meet the conditions of looseness, breathability, and nutrition.

When growing hydrangeas, you need to pay attention to the three aspects of water, temperature, and fertilization. When watering, follow the principle of not watering unless the temperature is dry, and watering thoroughly when you do. It should be grown between 10 and 20 degrees, and fertilize appropriately.

In addition, hydrangeas should not be exposed to direct sunlight before flowering, and no fertilizer should be applied during flowering. After flowering, withered bracts should be removed in time, and nutrients and water should be replenished in time.

Watering method

Watering hydrangeas must be done in moderation, not too much, because too much water will affect their normal growth. Usually, just water the soil until it is wet, and do not allow water to accumulate in the soil.

Fertilization method

In spring and autumn, you can apply diluted fertilizer to hydrangeas every 7-10 days. When the temperature is high in summer, the plants will grow temporarily, so fertilization should be suspended. In winter, the plants will not grow much, so the number of fertilizations should be reduced accordingly.

Pruning methods

Hydrangeas must be pruned in a timely manner during management. Correct and timely pruning can promote a better plant shape, better flowering and growth. In addition, after flowering, the remaining flowers and overly dense branches must be pruned so that they can recover faster.

Things to note when growing hydrangeas

During the cultivation process of hydrangeas, it is important to note that if the plants are kept in a cool, dark environment for a long time, they will grow too tall and may lead to weak growth. Therefore, they should be kept in a place with good lighting. The midday sun in summer is strong, so shade and sun protection are needed.

When growing hydrangeas, you must pay attention to preventing and controlling diseases and pests. The most common ones are wilt and leaf spot. Pay attention to ventilation and avoid other diseased plants. Once the disease occurs, you must use medication immediately. If the disease is serious, it will endanger its normal growth.
